Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe - ゲームギアゲーム

The magic spell system adds real depth to the side-scrolling combat, and the portable Game Gear screen makes it perfect for quick sessions. I've been playing through it during my commute and it's a solid little action-RPG.

I was surprised how well the action-RPG combat holds up on the Game Gear, especially the magic spells that actually feel powerful. The cartridge booted right up and saved my progress without any issues.

Picked this up for a retro gaming night and the melee combat feels surprisingly tight for a handheld title—plus the action-RPG stages give it way more depth than I expected. Magic spells add a nice layer, and it’s been a solid way to scratch that Golden Axe itch on the go.
